Bank Holiday Sunday 50% empty

We stay at this lovely site quiet often ? In fact Friday and Sunday this week. Can not fault the Wardens . Questions need to be asked with C&mHC about why this site is only 50% occupied on a.bank holiday Sunday . A clue could be that the £40 a night fees are putting caravaners off . Surely in these difficult financial times the Club.could do more to help members. Jumping on the "Cost of Energy excuse" dosnt hold water. Great site but too expensive.

Lovely Site and Town

Had 2 nights here with our small dog. Warm and chatty welcome, Pitches spacious, well maintained site with new plants and grass still establishing. There was a tiny bit of road noise as we were quite close, but nothing to spoil our stay. All facilities were very clean. Walk into town was nice thru' the Nature Reserve woods, took app 30 mins. I think you could also walk in the opposite direction towards another village, so we will explore this when we return. Plenty of small shops and eating places to choose from. Only improvements would be to the Dog area - make an entrance at each end and cut the long grass so its easier to pick up. Will return soon 🙂🙂🐕‍🦺

Could be our favourite

This was our first visit to the site, which is in the beautiful north of England, and it exceeded our expectations on so many levels. Easy to get to and a short walk into the town for shops, bars, restaurants and cafes has convinced us it will be a favourite for future visits. There are two routes into the town, one alongside the road and the other through a lovely forest. We did both, but because we had a dog, decided we preferred the forest route. Some previous reviewers mention road noise but believe me you won't notice it. The facilities block is clean and the showers have plenty of room and hot water. Pitches are big and level but take some rock pegs for awnings because the base material is well compacted. The staff are amazing and will always try to help (thank you Brian and Sue!). Overall, an exceptional site.

Lovely Site

Enjoyed our first stay on this site. Facilities were very clean and accessible. Staff were very welcoming , friendly and informative. Ideal location to tour a beautiful part of Durham, and also nice walk into Barnard Castle itself. Lovely walk through a pleasant wooded area , ideal for our Dog. Noise from the roads didn’t bother us at all.

Ideal location

This site is ideally situated for accessing the town. It’s only a short walk and the town has lots of pubs , restaurants and fish and chips shops. The staff on site are friendly and helpful. It was poor weather , rainy , and our pitch was flooded due to poor drainage. The pitches are well spaced out and it’s an attractive site. There is some road noise but not much.

Prices spiraling. Can it be justified ?

We have stayed here many times and always enjoy our time. here. Two points i would make. 1. Earliest arrival time now 1pm. Cant understand the clubs stance on this as surely they should be asking people to leave at before 11am and first arrivals at 12 . That means you can walk our for lunch . Has the club ever asked members about this ? . Second point is pricing. Do we really need to increase prices. so much over Bank Holidays ? Other than that this site is very worth a visit OFF PEAK if you want a better deal. New part is now open but looks a bit bear without trees and bushes. Would always try for pitches on the bottom row arround nos 30s to 40s. Handy for toilet block quieter and nice open views. Nice wardens and great facilities. 15 minute walk into Barney if you cross the footbridge. Three Crowns for a nice meal out 147 chippy first class.

Don’t under estimate the road noise!!

If you are lucky enough to get a pitch on the lower side of the site you’ve cracked it….however the road noise on the other side of the site is horrendous and pretty constant.

First time for us in this area and the location is excellent for walking into Barnard Castle and beyond. Barnard Castle is a very nice busy little town with lots of independent shops, smallish Morrison’s and good eateries.

The circular walk from Barnard Castle to Abbey bridge and returning via Egglestone Abbey (free of charge) is an easy walk of varying aspects.

Great site within walking distance of Barnard Castle

What a lovely site! Very clean and well kept, with great facilities, shop and a playground on site. Really easy access to it from the main roads, but still having a rural feel and literally a 10 minute walk into Barnard Castle with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Alternatively, as you walk out the site, you can go onto a lovely walk into the woods or along the river. Would highly recommend and we will be back :-).

Our first trip as new caravanners

This is a great site. We are new to caravanning and it was a great experience for us. Nice large pitches. The wardens Sue and Brian were very helpful. Barnard Castle is a lovely town. We would recommend the chip shop called Number 149. The Bowes museum is well worth a visit and High Force waterfall is a must. Thanks. Bob and Jenny.

A great site!

This was our first visit to this site and what a little gem! We were slightly apprehensive about booking after reading some comments about the road noise but we selected a pitch down the dip for our Motorhome at the far side of the toilet block overlooking the treetops and it was perfect! Level, quiet pitch with easy access to the toilet block. TV reception was 'ok' and walk into Barnard Castle was really quite pleasant, although up hill on the return for those less fit/mobile. The town is fab with lots of shoos, cafes, pubs and boutiques, as well as the Castle to visit and lovely river walks. We will definitely return!! (Even though the club prices seem quite expensive now £80+ for 2 nights stay - and that's both being members & 1 of us a concession!)
